More Arts Award Success!

Another group of young people have completed their Bronze Arts Award at Skipton Town Hall, earning a Level 1 qualification.

Our second Bronze Arts Award programme was successfully completed by participants in May 2023.

Arts Award is a range of recognised qualifications awarded by Trinity College London which support children and young people aged 25 and under to grow as artists and arts leaders. There are 5 awards: Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold, which all help participants to develop creative, critical and communicative skills in the arts.

For this Bronze Award programme, young people attended over 4 months of weekly sessions at Skipton Town Hall, in which they took part in a range of activities and recorded all their experiences in a bespoke portfolio.

These activities included exploring the museum (with a trail, behind-the-scenes store tour and object handling), creating their own artwork using a variety of techniques, researching an artist and presenting their findings, and planning and teaching their own lesson to share an art skill! Self-reflection was a key part of the process, with participants assessing their skills and development at each stage.

What did they think of the experience?

Isaac and Oscar, two of our participants, share their thoughts about completing the award…

What was your favourite thing about taking part in the Bronze Arts Award programme?

  • Isaac: My favourite thing was making our own bowls for Part A because we got to be creative with our designs.
  • Oscar: The fact that it allowed me to experience really fun activities and then use my creativity to display this in my portfolio.

What did you find the most challenging about your Bronze Arts Award?

  • Isaac: Getting things done in time!
  • Oscar: Trying to fit all of my work into one portfolio. But it was worth it knowing that it will tell people about everything I’ve learned.

Would you recommend completing a Bronze Arts Award at Skipton Town Hall to other young people?

  • Isaac: Yes, it is a fun but challenging experience.
  • Oscar: Yes, it is a very rewarding experience and is lots of fun.

What tips do you have for other young people completing their Bronze Award?

  • Isaac: If you’re talking to others during the sessions, make sure you’re working too and don’t fall behind!
  • Oscar: The more you show your creativity in your portfolio, the better.

Well done to all the young people who took part in this programme!
