Teacher CPD: Rocks and Fossils

Wed 21st May 2025 16:00

Skipton Town Hall

At the Craven Museum, we offer bookable CPD sessions for primary school teachers.
These are designed to consolidate and build subject knowledge (both general and local); to gain new ideas for engaging pupils; and we will explore the Craven Museum Collection to see how pupils can benefit from object-based learning.

Our next CPD session will cover Rocks and Fossils (Key Stage Two Science Curriculum). We’ll explore and identify the key rock types, the rock cycle, and use specific examples from the geology of the Craven area.

We’ll also introduce you to key local fossils and how to interpret them to be able to read the stories written in the rocks. There’ll be plenty of hands-on experience and a chance to quiz a doctor of palaeontology.

A woman is showing a museum object to some school children. They are all sat round a table and wearing white gloves.
