Skipton Camerata: A Northern Score
featuring Ian McMillan
Fri 22nd November 2024 7:30pm
Poet Ian McMillan and composer Ben Crick pay tribute to 20 celebrated Northerners in words and music.
This year marks Skipton Camerata’s 20th anniversary – we’ve been around for a score of years! To mark the occasion, Ian McMillan is the narrator in the first performance of A Northern Score, the story of how the North of England has struggled, thrived and ultimately been defined. Through Ian’s poetry and the music of conductor Ben Crick, A Northern Score portrays the lives and deeds of 20 remarkable individuals from the middle ages to the present who have shaped and influenced the region.
Before the interval, broadcaster and bassoonist Linton Stephens chairs a discussion with Ian and Ben about the creation of A Northern Score and the people that inspired it.
Run time: approx. 1 hour 50 minutes (including an interval)

Skipton Camerata
Founded in 2004 by its artistic director, Ben Crick, Skipton Camerata is North Yorkshire’s only professional orchestra. Skipton Camerata’s primary purpose is the delivery of live classical music to a national standard in areas of limited provision across Yorkshire. They want to remove barriers that prevent people from engaging with classical music. They believe everyone should be able to enjoy high-quality live orchestral music as much as they do.
