Pirate Princess

Wed 26th August 2026 - 11am & 1.30pm

Created and performed by circus performer and professional idiot Gemma Bond, Pirate Princess is a story of hope against adversity inspired by strong and inventive women of history.

Poor shipwrecked Princess Poppy finds herself lost at sea in a most cumbersome ball gown. If only she could access a higher vantage point to see which way to swim! Try as she might her frills and layers thwart her attempt to climb the mast to get a better view.

Inspired by the secret transformative clothing designs of the inventive women of the Victorian era, she niftily transforms her outfit into a practical and fabulous solution. With the help of the audience she gathers the strength to climb the mast to the crow’s nest and see her way to safety. Finishing with an impressive display of circus skills she hoists the flag for freedom and clothing equality for all.

Pirate Princess is an interactive mostly non verbal show making it accessible to a wide range of audience members.

The show encourages all to reuse, repurpose and recycle as Poppy reinvents her outfit and her mindset to overcome her predicament. With a strong feminist message the show uses slapstick comedy, puppets and circus skills to tell a highly visual story of overcoming adversity. Expect wayward crabs, slippery fish, coconut telephones and a whole lot of “yaaaarrrgh!”

This show is suitable for all ages and aimed specifically at 5 to 11 year olds. For fans of circus, princesses, puppets, laughing, pirates and adventure.

Feminist theatre for the whole family.
