Musical Glories of Paris and Venice
Bradford Festival Choral Society presents a rich and uplifting summer concert celebrating the music of two of Europe’s great musical cities.
From the vibrant splendour of Venetian church music to the ceremonial grandeur of Paris, this programme brings together some of the finest Baroque choral works of the 17th and early 18th centuries. Vivaldi’s much-loved Gloria crowns the evening, alongside Charpentier’s resplendent Te Deum and expressive music by Monteverdi, Maria Peruchona, and Barbara Strozzi.
Performed by choir and soloists with the period-instrument ensemble Baroque in the North, and conducted by Thomas Leech, this concert offers a vivid and colourful journey through the musical glories of Paris and Venice, brought to life in the beautiful setting of Skipton Town Hall.
About the Choir
Bradford Festival Choral Society (shortlisted for the 2023 Royal Philharmonic Society Awards) was founded in 1856, after being put together as a temporary group for the opening of Bradford’s St George’s Hall in 1853. With around 120 singers, the choir regularly programmes classic choral works that are such an important part of the choir’s heritage while also exploring exciting new music by living composers.
