A Play In A Weekend
Sat 26th - Sun 27th September 2026 - 09.30-16.30
With theatre director Olivia Schofield
For ages 10–14
Can you create, rehearse and perform a brand-new play in just one weekend?
Join theatre director Olivia Schofield for an exciting two-day creative challenge where young people will transform the museum and its collections into an original piece of theatre.
Participants will explore the museum, uncover fascinating objects and stories, and work together to develop their own unique play inspired by what they discover. Through drama games, storytelling, movement and ensemble theatre techniques, the group will create a performance from scratch – before bringing it to life for family and friends the very next day.
Day one focuses on creativity and collaboration. After a behind-the-scenes exploration of the museum, the group will generate ideas, develop characters and build a compelling story inspired by an artefact from the collection. By the end of the day, they’ll have created the foundations of an original production.
On day two, it’s all about getting the show stage-ready. Young performers will rehearse scenes, develop movement sequences, refine characters and work with basic theatre technology before presenting their finished performance.
No previous acting experience is required – just imagination, enthusiasm and a willingness to work as part of a team. Whether you’re an aspiring actor, writer, director or simply love telling stories, this is a fantastic opportunity to experience the complete creative process of making theatre.
Over two days, participants will:
- Meet fellow cast members and play warm-up games
- Explore the museum for inspiration
- Create an original story and script
- Develop characters and scenes
- Learn rehearsal and performance techniques
- Work creatively as an ensemble
- Experience a theatre technical rehearsal
- Perform a brand-new play for an audience
